Morning Tour: Toledo

The city of Toledo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, filled with wonderful architecture that combines Arabic, Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance styles. Surrounded by the River Tajo, the atmospheric walled town is home to many historic sites, including churches and museums.

A highlight of your visit will surely be the sight of paintings by 16th-century master El Greco. Toledo was the setting for much of El Greco’s artwork; see his famous The Burial of the Count of Orgaz at the Church of St Tome.

On your guided tour of the city, you also see the amazing 13th-century cathedral, the medieval castle, Santa Maria La Blanca Synagogue, San Juan of the Kings and the Victorio Macho Museum.

When you are back in Madrid, enjoy free time to have lunch (own expense) at one of the numerous restaurants of the city; your guide will advise you the best eateries to sample local food.

Afternoon Tour: Panoramic Madrid Sightseeing Tour

Day 3:  Day to explore on your own, and then transfer to Barcelona

Day 4:  Best of Barcelona Tour

Start with a drive to Barcelona’s famous hill of Montju, the site of the 1992 Olympic Games, which offers excellent views over the city. After a brief stop at the Catalunya National Art Museum, continue down to Pla Espanya and on past the modernist buildings of the Eixample area.

On your way to the Sagrada Famlia, you will go through Passeig de Gracia, home to designer stores and two of Barcelona’s most renowned Antonio Gaudí buildings La Pedrera and Casa Bat

Your guide will give you a comprehensive tour of the exterior before taking you straight past the long lines and into the magnificent interior of this famous structure, where you will have some free time to explore on your own.

You will then head to the oldest part of Barcelona, the Gothic Quarter, where you will leave the bus and enjoy a stroll through the narrow streets of medieval Barcelona. From there, travel back to the early Middle Ages, visiting the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Palace, the original 2,000-year-old Roman temple and part of the Cathedral.

Continue to the Born district, where you have free time for a quick lunch before heading to the magnificent Santa Maria del Mar church, one of the most beautiful in Barcelona, where your tour ends at approximately 1pm.

Day 5:  Free day to explore on your own

Day 6:  Sevilla

Transfer to the port to board your River Cruise starting from 5.00pm. Settling into your cabin and presentation of the crew followed by a welcome cocktail served in the lounge and dinner on board. Free evening. Overnight stopover.

Day 7: Sevilla – Cadiz

Breakfast on board. Guided tour of Sevilla on foot. Art and enchantment have left their mark on the city of Sevilla, “the city of light”. Set out to explore this wonderful city. Back on board at around 1.00pm. Departure of the cruise and lunch on board. Sailing on the great river. As we drift along, you will discover unspoilt nature where fields of cotton and rice rub shoulders with the extraordinary wildlife. We will sail past the Donana park, classed by UNESCO as a “natural Biosphere reserve”, and Sanlucar de Barrameda. Arrival in Cádiz in the evening. Dinner on board. To round the evening off to perfection, our hostess will accompany you on an exploration of Cádiz by night. Built on a rock and surrounded on all sides by the sea, this fortified city is connected to the mainland only by a narrow strip of sand.

Day 8:  Cadiz – el Puerto de Santa Maria

Breakfast on board. Morning devoted to the guided tour of Cádiz on foot which will surprise you with its cultural and historic richness. A city famed for the beauty of its landscapes which make it quite unique. Back to the boat for lunch. Departure of the cruise for El Puerto de Santa Maria. Arrival around 3.00pm. Departure for the excursion to Jerez, capital of wine and horses and cradle of flamenco song. A panoramic tour will enable you to see the Alcazar and the cathedral. Your tour will continue with a visit to a “ganadería” (a property where bulls are raised), the chance to learn about this living symbol of Spanish culture. Return on board. Spanish themed dinner and an evenings entertainment. Overnight stopover.

Day 9:  el Puerto de Santa Maria – Sevilla

Breakfast on board. Departure for the visit to a renown wine cellar where the secrets of these specific “Manzanilla” wines will be revealed to you. Wine tasting. Then, an equestrian display will take you to the heart of an entirely different tradition. Back on board for lunch and departure of the cruise to Sevilla. Dinner on board. Arrival of the boat during the evening.

Day 10:  Sevilla – Granada – Sevilla

After breakfast on board, departure by coach for the excursion to Granada. Guided tour of the city. Ringed by the imposing mountainous barrier of the Sierra Nevada, Granada, famous for its lively atmosphere, is built on three hills: the Albaicin, the Sacromonte and the Alhambra. This grandiose and verdant site also owes its prestige to its Moorish monuments, especially the Alhambra. You will discover the Alhambra, a palace straight out of the thousand and one nights, the Generalife, the kings’ summer residence, etc. Lunch at a restaurant in Granada. First part of the afternoon, freedom to explore Granada, then back to Sevilla by coach. Dinner on board, free evening.

Day 11:  Sevilla

Breakfast on board. Departure by coach for the excursion to a nature reserve, tour with a forest guide. This is a total immersion in an unspoilt natural area, which has managed to preserve its very specific character. Then on to a bird-watching site, where you will get the chance to discover an amazing variety of bird species: waders, gulls, ducks… (In July and August, this visit is not offered. Instead you will visit Carmona and an Oil mill where you will have a tasting of oil). Back to the boat for lunch. Free afternoon in Sevilla. The city’s geographical situation, astride Europe and Africa, gives it an undeniable advantage. It makes it a melting pot of Muslim, Catholic and Jewish cultures. This mixture makes this Andalusian city an architectural gem. In the evening, dinner on board followed by a flamenco show.

Day 12:  Sevilla – Cordoba

Breakfast on board. Day devoted to the tour of Córdoba. Departure by coach in the morning heading for Córdoba, the city of the Caliphs. Guided tour of the city. You will discover the mosquecathedral, a veritable forest of columns, no less than 856, adorned with jasper, granite and precious marble; the Juderia, the former Jewish quarter and its white lanes adorned with flowers and its typical houses opening onto their superb patios. Lunch of “tapas” specialities in a restaurant. Afternoon, free time then back to Sevilla where our boat is moored. Gala dinner on board, followed by dancing.

Day 13: Sevilla

Breakfast on board. Disembarkation at 9.00am. End of our journey.
