This morning we will tour the island by bus. Ischia is an incredibly beautiful volcanic island (Green Island) lying under a blue sky in the middle of the unspoiled Tyrrhenian Sea. Formed by the fires of the now dormant volcano (Epomeo), which makes its presence felt via the many thermal and mineral springs found all over the island. Ischia is the most important natural SPA destination in Europe. We will go back to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon we will have a walking tour of the Aragonese Castle, the most impressive historical monument in Ischia. The Castle stands on a volcanic rock connected to the island by a bridge built in 1438 by Alfonso of Aragon. The castle walls housed churches, courtyards, antique archways, terraces, gardens and arcades with outstanding views of the Bay of Naples, the peninsula and the harbor of Ischia. Entrance tickets not included. (B, L & D)

Day 4 – Tue – Capri – Full day tour

Today, after a short walk to the port, we will take a mini-cruise to the enchanting island of Capri. A funicular will carry us up to the Piazza Umberto I. The world-famous “Piazzetta” is lined with luxury boutiques, expensive restaurants and paparazzi chasing celebrities. Features of the island are: Marina Piccola, Belvedere of Tragara, Faraglioni (rugged rocks jutting up from the sea), Anacapri, Blue Grotto and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villa “Jovis”. Funicular and bus tickets not included. (B, L & D)

A short walk to the port and then on a mini-cruise to the best loved resorts: Sorrento, known as the lemon-scented jewel of the peninsula, land of colors and fragrances. Sorrento exemplifies the Italy of our imagination! It has inspired poets, writers, artists and song writers since Roman times. Free full day in Sorrento to shop, to enjoy the best views of the enchanting bay of Naples or to have lunch and wine in a local trattoria. Typical products of Sorrento are: Limoncello and Wood Intarsia. Then back to Ischia for a quick swim or relax before dinner at the hotel. (B, L & D).

Day 6 – Thu – Amalfi & Positano – Full day tour

This morning, after breakfast and a short walk to the port, we will embark on a mini-cruise to the enchanting Amalfi Coast, thought by many to be the most beautiful stretch of scenery in the entire Mediterranean. This stretch of coastline will carve a special place in your heart! A landscape masterpiece, it is a “vertical village” that really seems to be standing, leaning against a rocky wall. We will visit two of the areas best-loved resorts and spend approximately 2 hours in each place. Amalfi the coast’s main town, a precious gem of this intoxicating region, lies at the mouth of a deep ravine surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery; Positano is a village dangerously perched in an enclave on the hill leading down to the Mediterranean coast. Positano has contributed to the revival of the entire Amalfi coast. (B, L & D).

Day 7 – Fri – Pompeii & Rome

This morning after breakfast, we will depart for the capital of the Roman Empire, Rome also known as The Eternal, Capital of the World, and The City. Along the way, we will stop (approximately 3 hours) in Pompeii, known for its ancient city’s ruins caused by the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius (admission not included). A narrated tour with headphone can be obtained for a minimal fee. In Rome our four star Grand Hotel Olympic will be our home away from home for the next 2 nights. This beautiful Papal palace in the heart of Rome, between the Vatican City and Piazza del Popolo, is a short distance to all the essential points of the city, 5 minute walk from Vatican City and St. Peter cathedral. Legend has it that Rome was founded by the twins Romulus and Remus and is definitively unique with its rich history and fervent vitality of its citizens. We encourage you to savor your first Roman dinner at nearby typical and well known restaurants and enjoy your meal with a glass or two of “er vino de‘Castelli“, typical regional wine. (B)

Day 8 – Sat – Rome – Full day tour

Today we will visit Rome by subway (metro). The historical sites and major attractions of Rome are closed to traffic, thus the best way to explore the city is by taking the convenient metro system. We will visit the famous St. Peter Cathedral, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum (the largest amphitheater ever built in the Roman Empire and the most representative symbol of Rome). You will appreciate the magnificence and glory of what was Rome 2000 years ago. We will continue down “via dei Fori Imperiali” and, along the Via Sacra, we will follow in the footsteps of Julius Caesar, Marc Anthony and Nero. At the altar where Julius Caesar was cremated, visitors from around the world still leave flowers and candles to this day.
